Check credit eligibility

Postgraduate coursework

If you've completed previous study, you may be eligible to receive credit for – or exemption from – certain courses in a UQ program.

If you receive credit or exemptions for previous study, you won’t have to repeat similar courses and may be able to graduate sooner.

Types of credit and exemptions

Depending on the study you've completed, you may receive:

  • specified credit – you won't need to study the specific course you receive credit for and may be able to graduate sooner
  • unspecified credit – you won't need to study an introductory-level or elective course and may be able to graduate sooner
  • exemptions – you won't need to take the course you receive an exemption for, but you'll need to take another course in its place. Exemptions let you progress into advanced-level studies without having to study introductory courses.

What am I eligible for?

If you've completed studies at another university, search the credit precedent database to see courses that UQ has previously assessed for credit applications.

If you've completed previous study at UQ, see our advice on transferring credit between UQ programs.

If you've served in the Australian Defence Force (ADF), we'll assess your eligibility for credit when you apply.
