4. How to apply

Applying for cross-institutional study at UQ is easy, but we recommend applying early. You can track the progress of your application online.

Apply online

Step 1 – Check your student visa, OSHC and any scholarships 

Ensure your student visa, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and any scholarships (if relevant) permit cross-institutional study.

Step 2 – Choose your course 

Choose the course you want to study. Ensure you meet all entry requirements and that the application deadline has not passed.

Step 3 – Seek approval from your home institution

You must have approval from your home university before applying for cross-institutional study. Please speak to the relevant person at your current university and ensure you can get credit for your UQ studies.

Step 4 – Start your application

Use UQ Online Applications to create an account. 

Complete all details on the application form and include all required documents and information requests. You can save an incomplete form and return later.

Please note that the total file size limit is 12MB. We recommend you upload documents as PDFs to reduce their file size.

You will need to provide a complete academic transcript and/or testamurs with your application.

The transcript should detail all of the courses you studied and any degrees/diplomas that were awarded. 

Step 5 – Submit your application

If you are satisfied your application is complete, please submit it. 

After submission, you can access your application through My Applications.

If you are unable to access UQ Online Applications at all, please contact us.

Closing dates

Please submit your application by:

  • Semester 1: 31 January
  • Semester 2: 30 June
  • Summer Semester (if relevant): 31 October

Late applications might be considered, but this can't be guaranteed. You must leave enough time for both your home university and UQ to organise the cross-institutional study. 

We recommend applying well before the closing date – cross-institutional study is a complex administrative arrangement. 

Step 6 – Manage your application

Your application will be assessed by UQ International Admissions who will contact you through UQ Online Applications with any updates or any requests for additional information.

You can also manage your application through My Applications

Log in to:

  • upload documentation
  • provide details of a referee
  • withdraw your application
  • accept, decline or defer an offer
  • pay all or part of your fees
  • view your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)
  • ask a question using the messaging function.
Applications for some programs are assessed immediately. To change your preferences or update your details, please use the messaging function.

If you did not apply through UQ Online Applications, UQ International Admissions will contact you by email.

For enquiries about the status of your application, email applicationstatus@uq.edu.au and include your full name, date of birth and student number (if known).

Next steps

You will be advised by the relevant faculty or school about the outcome of your application.

If you receive an offer to study with us and choose to accept, congratulations!

Your letter of offer will tell you how to pay your fees and other information about studying at UQ.

At the conclusion of your studies, you are responsible for forwarding your results to your home institution. Official academic transcripts are available for a fee.

Academic transcripts

  • Do not send original documents. These will not be returned.
  • Provide a certified copy of your transcript as soon as it is available. 
    • Transcripts can be certified at a Student Centre, by an approved UQ agent, or by other appropriate parties. 

Waiting to complete your studies

  • If you are waiting for a transcript or your current results, you can submit your application with a note stating when your transcript is likely to be available. Forward a certified copy of your transcript as soon as you receive it.
  • When you forward your transcript, please clearly mark it with your UQ student number (if known), family name, first name, date of birth, and the UQ program you have applied for. Please also state that you have already submitted an application.

English-language tests

  • TOEFL – For internet-based tests please send a copy of your TOEFL test results. For computer-based and paper-based TOEFL tests, please send an original and official TOEFL score report directly to The University of Queensland (Institution code 0987). We verify all results. Please note that the University does not accept institutional TOEFL tests.
  • IELTS – Please send a copy of your results, which we will then verify.
