5. How to apply

Applying to study a one-year honours program is easy. You can even track the progress of your application online.

Applying online

Step 1 – Choose your program

Find the one-year honours program you want to study. Ensure you meet all entry requirements and that the application deadline has not passed.

Step 2 – Contact the program’s school or faculty

Consult with the faculty and/or school about any specific application requirements, closing dates, further information about projects, and potential honours supervisors.

Step 3 – Start your application

Use UQ Online Applications to create an account.

Complete all details on the application form and include all required documents and information requests. You can save an incomplete form and return later.

You may need to provide a complete academic transcript and/or testamurs with your application.

The transcript should detail all of the courses you studied and any degrees/diplomas that were awarded. You only need to submit an academic transcript for non-UQ programs.

Step 4 – Submit your application

If you are satisfied your application is complete, please submit it.

After submission, you can access your application through My Applications.

If you are unable to access UQ Online Applications at all, you can download a hard-copy postgraduate application form (PDF, 193KB).

Please submit completed forms to a Student Centre.

Closing dates

Most applications for Semester 1 are due by 31 January. For Semester 2, applications are usually due by 30 June.

Some programs have different closing dates – these will be listed on the relevant Future Students program page.

Late applications might be considered, but this can't be guaranteed. You must leave enough time for the University to process your application and to issue an offer.

We recommend applying well before the closing date – places in some programs fill up quickly.

Step 5 – Manage your application

You can manage your application through My Applications

Log in to:

  • Upload documentation
  • Provide details of a referee
  • Withdraw your application
  • Accept, decline or defer an offer
  • Pay all or part of your fees
  • Ask a question using the messaging function.
Applications for some programs are assessed immediately. To change your preferences or update your details, please use the messaging function.
