6. How to apply

Once you’ve chosen a program, applying to study postgraduate coursework at UQ is straightforward, with applications submitted directly to UQ or through a UQ representative in your country.

Apply online

Step 1– Choose your program

Go to the postgraduate coursework program you wish to study, checking you meet all entry and English language proficiency requirements and the application deadline has not passed.

Step 2 – Start your application

Go to UQ’s online application form and create an applicant account.

Complete all details requested in the online application, uploading all required documentation as per the program entry requirements and any additional information requests. The upload size limit is 12MB. Please upload your documents in PDF format to reduce their file size.

You can save an incomplete form and return later.

You will need to provide complete academic transcripts and/or testamurs of your previous tertiary studies with your application. The transcripts should detail all courses undertaken and any degrees/diplomas awarded. Academic transcripts only for programs not completed at UQ are required.

If you would like to apply for an English language pathway package, you will be able to indicate this during the application process.

Step 3 – Submit your application

Upon providing all required documentation, submit your application.

After submission, you can access your application through your applicant account

A non-refundable AU$100 application fee will be charged when submitting your application online.

If you are unable to access our online application form, you can download a copy of the postgraduate application form (PDF, 106KB) and submit it by email to applicationstatus@uq.edu.au, in person or by mail to UQ International. A non-refundable AU$150 application fee will be charged when submitting your application via these methods.

Closing date for applications

Applications to most UQ programs for first semester are due by 30 November of the previous year. For second semester, applications are due by 31 May of the same year. Some programs have earlier closing dates which are detailed on the page of your chosen program.

Late applications may be accepted for many programs, but consideration cannot be guaranteed. You must leave enough time for the University to process your application and to issue an offer. You must also leave enough time to organise your student visa.

Please check your program page to confirm closing dates for applications, as dates can vary.

We can consider applications to commence at UQ up to two years in advance, so an early application is recommended. In addition, some programs have limited places, so we encourage you to apply as early as possible.

Academic Transcripts

  • Do not send original documents as these will not be returned.
  • You will need to provide a certified copy of your transcripts as soon as you receive them. Your transcript can be certified by:
    • a justice of the peace (who must also provide their registration number)
    • a solicitor, lawyer, or barrister
    • a police officer ranked sergeant or above, or in charge of a station
    • The University of Queensland Union
    • the UQ Student Centre
    • a UQ authorised representative
    • an officer within the official records department of the institution that originally issued the documents.
  • If you are waiting for transcripts or current results, you may submit your completed application with a note advising when results are likely to be available.
  • You should forward a certified copy of your transcripts as soon as you receive them.
  • Please check that transcripts sent separately are clearly marked with your UQ Student ID, family name, first name, date of birth, anticipated program, and a statement that an application has already been submitted.

English language tests

  • TOEFL - For internet-based (IBT) tests please send us a copy of your TOEFL test results. For computer based (CBT) and paper based TOEFL tests you must arrange for UQ to receive an original copy of your official TOEFL score report. Please ask the Educational Testing Service to send the Official Score Report directly to The University of Queensland, institutional code 0987. We will verify all results. Please note that the University does not accept institutional TOEFL tests.
  • IELTS - If you sat an IELTS test, please send us a copy of your results which we will then verify.

If you have any questions or would like assistance with submitting your application, please contact us or a UQ representative in your country.

Step 4 – Manage your application

Your application will be assessed by UQ International Admissions who will contact you through your applicant account with any updates or if additional information is required.

You can also check on your application and manage other administrative tasks, including responding to offers, via your applicant account.

Sign into your account to:

  • Upload documentation
  • Provide details of a referee
  • Withdraw your application
  • Accept, decline or defer an offer
  • Pay all or part of your fees
  • Attain Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) (for visa applicants)
  • Ask a question using our in app messaging function
Assessment of applications for some programs begins immediately upon submission of your application. To change your preferences or update details within your application use the in-app messaging feature to speak with an administrator.

If you were not able to apply online, UQ International Admissions will contact you by email.

For enquiries about the status of your application, send an email to applicationstatus@uq.edu.au including your full name, student ID (if known) and date of birth.
