Applying for the Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours)

The Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours) is designed to produce newly qualified dentists who can meet competencies set by the Dental Board of Australia.

For the Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours), minimum entry requirements are:

  • Queensland Year 12 English and Chemistry (or equivalent)
  • OP 1, or Entry Rank 99, and
  • Competitive UMAT scaled score aggregate.

How does the application process work?

Once QTAC has assessed all applications based on subject prerequisites and entry scores, each eligible applicant is ranked according to their UMAT scaled score aggregate.

The required UMAT scaled score aggregate depends on how many people apply for each intake – it can't be determined in advance.

As a guide, please see UMAT scores for recent Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours) intakes:

  Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours)
Year 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017
UMAT 180:56 171:57 174:53 173:65 176:55

In situations where applicants have the same UMAT score, UMAT Section 1 scores are used as a tie-breaker.

If a tie-break score was used to determine admission, the UMAT scaled score aggregate and Section 1 score are separated by a colon (:).

For example, in 2017 admission required:

  • an UMAT scaled score aggregate of 176, with
  • a Section 1 score of 55 as the tie-breaker.
  • This is represented by the figure 176:55.
