4. Pathways and prerequisite courses

If your entry score isn't what you'd hoped for – or if you don't meet a program's entry requirements – there are a range of options to help you on your way.

The five main pathways and prerequisite options are:

English language pathways

If you meet all the academic entry requirements for your preferred UQ program, but need further English language training, you can apply to follow one of our English language pathways through the Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education (ICTE-UQ).

Upgrading involves accepting an offerin a less competitive program to try to improve your entry score. Once you have completed a full year of tertiary study with suitable results to improve your entry rank, you can request a program change into your preferred program of study.

Note that if your preferred degree is a quota program, places are limited and entry is competitive.

Contact UQ International for more information about upgrading.

Prerequisite courses

If you are onshore in Australia or willing to study externally from home, a few options are available if you need to satisfy a subject prerequisite for your preferred program.
