Entry requirement updates for education programs

The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) has introduced a non-academic entry requirement for all initial teacher education programs.

This requirement applies to all students applying for one of the following UQ programs:

  • 2066 – Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education (Secondary)
  • 2273 – Bachelor of Business Management/Bachelor of Education (Secondary)
  • 2306 – Bachelor of Education (Primary)
  • 2110 – Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Education (Secondary)
  • 2398 – Bachelor of Mathematics / Bachelor of Education (Secondary)
  • 2372 – Bachelor of Health, Sport and Physical Education (Honours)
  • 5556 – Master of Teaching (Primary)
  • 5685 – Master of Teaching (Secondary)

All initial teacher education (ITE) applicants need to be assessed for this requirement. For this to take place, applicants will need to complete the QTAC online questionnaire

To complete the questionnaire, applicants will need to answer several questions that require them to rank a series of statement responses (from which they think are most or least important). Applicants will also need to provide two written statements (no more than 500 words each) regarding their:

  1. motivation and suitability to become a teacher.
  2. involvement in personal learning and leadership activities.

The personal statements must satisfactorily demonstrate the required capabilities in order to meet the necessary condition of entry. 

Once the applicant’s questionnaire responses and statements have been assessed, UQ will be notified of the outcome and we will advise them of this as soon as possible.
