Under 18 International Student Supervision Program
If you’re an international student attending UQ or UQ college while under the age of 18, you may need to register for the International Student Supervision Program. This program provides supervision and support to our under 18 international students.
About the program
You're required to register for the International Student Supervision Program if you're under 18 when entering Australia to begin a course at UQ or UQ College, and you:
need approved accommodation and welfare arrangements to meet visa requirements.
This program provides you with additional support, guidance, and activities to help you transition to study and life in Australia. We recognise that living away from family, friends and your usual support can take some time to adjust to, so we have developed a comprehensive program for you.
The program includes:
orientation sessions
study workshops and social activities
regular face-to-face check-ins with the supervision team
extra support to help you to settle in at UQ and UQ College
ongoing monitoring and assistance with your studies
regular inspections of your accommodation to ensure that it is meeting your needs.
Parents can contact supervision@uq.edu.au at any time if they have concerns for their child. We can give reminders to call home or pass on any important messages. We are committed to providing our students with the best support possible.
The program fees cover individual check-ins, group activities and tailored advice and support for students. The fees are:
Registration fee: $150 (non-refundable).
Program fees: $60 per week you are in Australia until you turn 18. Your weekly fee is based on a calendar week, starting on a Monday:
If you arrive in the middle of a week, you need to pay the fee for that week.
If you turn 18 in the middle of a week, you need to pay the fee for that week.
If you turn 18 on a Monday (i.e the first day of the week), you do not need to pay the fee for that week.
The payment instructions will be sent to your nominated email address once you have completed the accommodation step in StudentHub.
Curfew and house rules
All UQ-approved accommodation providers have agreed to the following rules for students registered in the program:
17-year-old students have a nightly 10pm curfew. You must sign in at your accommodation provider’s reception between 9:30pm and 10pm every night to avoid your parent/legal guardian, or UQ, being contacted.
16-year-old students have a 9pm curfew. You must sign in at your accommodation provider’s reception between 8:30pm and 9pm every night to avoid your parent/legal guardian, or UQ, being contacted.
No overnight guests are permitted. All visitors must leave the rooms by 9pm or 10pm (depending on age).
You'll also be expected to follow a few welfare rules:
Act responsibly and avoid risk-taking behaviour.
Inform the Supervision Coordinator if you need additional academic support.
Attend regular individual and group academic sessions.
Advise us by email if any contact details change for you, your parents or legal guardian.
Travel or overnight stays
While you're enrolled in the program, you will need permission from your parent or legal guardian and the Supervision Coordinator if you plan to:
travel
be late for curfew
stay overnight anywhere other than your approved accommodation.
