Hi, my name is Astrid and I studied at The University of Queensland
Hi, my name is Astrid and I'm currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce at The University of Queensland.

Why did you choose to study at UQ?

I chose UQ because UQ’s double degree program suited me, and also because UQ is ranked in the top 50 world's best universities.

What motivated you to apply for your program?

Ever since I was in middle school, my parents always wanted me to become a doctor. However, I was too scared to open and stitch up humans! Becoming an accountant was second on their list. So even though it was their idea, I’m beginning to enjoy the life of an accounting student.

Here at UQ, I have access to amazing study experiences compared to my home country. My accounting program provides a range of career options – to become an accountant, an analyst of securities entities, or even a manager in a company.

As for UQ itself, it has great infrastructure and people who assist you really well, which is just the best.

What do you like most about living in Brisbane?

Brisbane is a good balance of quiet and crowded. Quiet enough for me to focus my mind on my study and crowded enough to release my stress once in a while after a heavy week of study. The facilities and infrastructure in Brisbane are efficient and effective. Furthermore, most of the people here are really nice.

What have you been able to achieve as a result of studying at UQ?

I’m planning to develop my career with one of the major banks or securities entities in my home country – a job with one of the big four public accountants would be great.

What advice would you give people from other countries about studying at UQ?

Remember to not get too carried away by the new and exciting environment. When you arrive in Brisbane you may feel like you’ve gained freedom, being away from your rules at home.

It’s okay to take a couple weeks to let yourself get used to the new environment, have fun and explore. However, it’s really important to set your goals at the very beginning, and keep them in sight so you won’t forget about them and get lost. Your goals are what you’ll achieve by studying at UQ.

As UQ offers and provides many opportunities for you to exceed beyond your expectations, it’s crucial to make the best of it and not waste a single chance. Seize it all!
