Hi, my name is Sok yee and I studied at The University of Queensland.
Hi, my name is Sok Yee and I studied a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) at The University of Queensland.

What was your main motivation to study your degree?

Psychology has always been a very intriguing topic to me and I wanted to learn more about the various heuristics and motivations that drive both rational and irrational human behaviours.

Why did you choose UQ to complete your degree?

UQ’s School of Psychology has a strong reputation and has many excellent lecturers and researchers who have contributed greatly to the research literature.

I wanted to have a strong foundation in psychology and more exposure to psychological research, hence I chose UQ to complete my degree.

What did you enjoy most about studying at UQ?

I enjoyed the flexible timetables and the extensive amount of resources (24-hour libraries, computers, study rooms, etc.) available to us to assist us in our studies.

What was your favourite learning activity in your program and why?

I really enjoyed evolutionary psychology and human factors psychology. In both courses, psychology was taught in applied settings, and I learned how psychology interacts with other disciplines to further enhance our knowledge of human psychology / improve human-machine interactions.

The program also honed my analytical skills through experimental research to make sound conclusions, which allows me to have a rational mind that better understands human behaviours.

What is the best thing about living in Brisbane?

I like the variety of markets where there is an abundance of food and music, and the really good ambience makes going there enjoyable.

Would you recommend your degree at UQ to others and what advice would you give them?

Yes, I’d recommend UQ. I felt that I benefited a lot during my degree in terms of knowledge gained and research experience. As for advice for other students, I’d say UQ can really become a home away from home.

Where do you hope to be in 10 years’ time?

I hope to be able to contribute and further enhance the existing knowledge of human behaviours and its psychological applications.
