Hi, my name is Xinyu Mao and I'm studying a Bachelor of Arts at The University of Queensland.

How would you describe your UQ study experience?

UQ impresses me with its beautiful and animal-friendly environment. But I guess the best thing is its very nice and caring staff, who helped me a lot during the stressful time of my studies.

What are the best things about your program at UQ?

Studying history and ancient history as an international student benefits me more than I ever imagined. From Plato to Christianity, for the first time, I have begun to understand the foundations of Western civilisation.

The journey is intellectually stimulating and eye opening. It lets me see beyond what is here and now, and gives me insight into the unchanging humanity shared by all people.

Are there any services/facilities at UQ that you have found to be particularly useful?

When I first came to UQ I had some difficulty writing essays in a second language. The staff at Student Services gave me a lot of advice and support with my essay writing, which I appreciated.

What advice would you give international students who are considering studying your program at UQ?

Studying a Bachelor of Arts may mean your main form of assessment is essay writing. If you’re not confident with your writing, don’t be afraid to ask for help. The staff and students are very friendly and willing to help you.
