We’re making changes to our degrees to enhance the experience and, ultimately, employability of our students.

Depending on the degree, from 2021 students will have the opportunity to choose new specialisations, majors, fields of study, or minors to broaden their career options and meet the changing needs of industry.

Our new Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) offers:

  • a new flexible first year, with hands-on practical learning from day one of your degree
  • new courses in programming
  • new majors to meet industry demands
  • the choice of six specialisations, which will then inform the majors and minors you can choose.

New subject prerequisite choices for entry to science programs

From 2021, you’ll have a wider choice of subjects to meet the prerequisites for entry to some of our science programs.

The new entry prerequisites for the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Environmental Science will be:

  • English
  • Mathematical Methods, and
  • one of Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or Earth and Environmental Science.

The new entry prerequisites for the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Bachelor of Biotechnology will be:

  • English
  • Mathematical Methods, and
  • one of Chemistry, Physics or Biology.

Enhance your knowledge and career options when you tailor your degree by choosing from 36 different study plans. We've introduced new discipline options to give your study plan greater flexibility.

Bachelor of Science (Honours)

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) is available when you have completed a Bachelor of Science.

The honours program gives you the opportunity to pursue an independent research project in your area of interest, essentially giving you a research apprenticeship.

You can choose from different fields of study at our St Lucia and Gatton campuses.

Our Bachelor of Science (Honours) – Gatton offers the following fields of study:

  • Animal and Veterinary Bioscience
  • Animal Production Science (new)
  • Plant Science.

New 3-year specialist science programs

From 2021 we will offer two new 3-year programs: one in biotechnology and one in environmental science. These disciplines were previously offered in a 4-year mode.

Biotechnology is a creative entrepreneurial field, where scientists design innovative products and technologies, pioneering new frontiers in health, agriculture, science, engineering and beyond.

Bachelor of Biotechnology

Bachelor of Environmental Science

Environmental scientists describe, monitor and predict environmental processes and the effects of human activity on physical and biological environments. They devise strategies to improve sustainability, manage ecosystems, preserve global biodiversity and secure clean water and food.
