Hi, my name is Linh Chu and I’m studying a Master of Educational Studies, majoring in Guidance, Counselling and Careers, at The University of Queensland.
Why did you choose to study at UQ in Brisbane?
Brisbane is a peaceful city. It's not too crowded, and doesn’t have the hustle and bustle like Sydney and Melbourne, which makes it very liveable. The weather here is also great and I have found the local people to be very helpful and enthusiastic.
I initially chose UQ because I found the tuition fees for my program to be more affordable than the other universities in the Group of Eight (Go8). I was also awarded a Scholarship for Excellence from UQ’s Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty.
Tell us about your experience at UQ?
The UQ environment is fresh and full of nature, the campus is beautiful, but it also has modern classrooms and facilities. The staff and lecturers have also been very supportive during my studies. This has all made UQ a great place to study for me.
What is special or unique about your program?
What is unique about my program is the diversity of the people. The other students in my classes come from a range of backgrounds which means you learn a lot from all the different multicultural views.
What advice would you give people from other countries about studying at UQ?
The biggest challenge I have found in my studies is all the reading materials and assignments. I find that by having good time management skills, I am able to get the best results for my studies. For students thinking about coming to UQ I would say prepare yourself with critical thinking and self-study skills as you will use these all the time when studying.
What will you do after you graduate?
After I graduate I want to be a guidance counsellor back in Vietnam and help students to gain better insights into their future.
