Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours)

Overview

Become a leader in your field, with specialist diagnostic and treatment skills to help individuals manage pain and participate in daily activities, mobility, fitness and sport.

Become qualified to assist people with a range of injuries and ailments – from office workers with stiff necks to people requiring rehabilitation after a life-altering event such as a stroke. 

Learn how to care for those with musculoskeletal, neurological, respiratory and other conditions, using techniques to reduce pain, improve movement and restore muscle control for better mobility and function.

You'll study the theory and practice behind physiotherapy, including injury prevention, health promotion, clinical reasoning and diagnosis, therapeutic interventions, movement retraining, exercise prescription and optimising function to enhance the health of individuals.

You'll also undertake supervised clinical practice in a range of clinical settings that include hospitals, educational facilities, healthcare organisations, aged and community care, private practice and UQ’s Physiotherapy Clinics.

Placements and work experience

Students undertake supervised clinical practice in a range of clinical settings that includes hospitals, educational facilities, other health care organisations, private practices and UQ's internal clinics. During placements, students will have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge acquired through coursework and research to practice and develop clinical skills in real life settings.

Students will undertake a variety of sessional practical experiences from year one before commencing full time block placements in year four.

Students may be required to undertake clinical placements outside of the Brisbane metropolitan area and students are required to fund their travel, accommodation and daily living expenses.

Clinical placement hours can vary depending on whether a research project is undertaken in year 4 of the program.

Additional costs

  • Annual CPR re-certification (approximately $80 per year)
  • Students are expected to fund travel and living expenses associated with placements, some of which may be outside the Brisbane metropolitan area.
  • First Aid Certificate (including CPR) (approximately $130 renewed every 3 years)
  • A clinical uniform shirt is required and may be purchased through the School.
  • Costs for vaccinations and serology are the responsibility of the student and will vary based on individual and program requirements.
