Mechatronic Engineering

Bachelors of Engineering (Honours)/Computer Science

Mechatronic engineers integrate mechanical engineering with electronics, computer systems and advanced controls in order to design and construct products and processes.

They're typically involved with the design of automated and intelligent machines, including artificial intelligence systems, robotics, automated industrial machinery and avionics, and are employed in areas including research and development, mining, aerospace and defence, or by government and industry groups.

This major provides a broad-based education in the basic principles of electrical, mechanical and computer engineering. A large number of electives cover areas including engineering analysis and design, engineering mechanics, dynamics and automatic control, signals and communication, and electrical hardware and computer software.

Employment opportunities can be found in product developing and manufacturers, the mining industry, aerospace and defence sectors, and government and industry research groups.

Hands-on learning

Are you ready for one of the most hands-on mechatronic degrees in Australia? Do you want to learn how to retrieve a submarine from the ocean floor or build an autonomous drone?

Each year you will complete a hands-on, project-based subject as part of a student team. This will involve designing and building a system to solve a mechatronics task. Previous projects include a mini-rescue vehicle, autonomous drones, cars and sailboats, and submarine recovery.
