Bachelors of Engineering (Honours) / Economics

Overview

Enhance your engineering skill-set through a dual program including economics to prepare yourself for exciting and rewarding career opportunities.

This dual program will equip you with expertise in economics to enhance your engineering abilities, providing you with skills in investment decision-making and managing complex environmental and social priorities.

The engineering program is split into six main disciplines and a total on 18 speciality majors. The main streams of the program are chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, mining and software engineering.

Depending on your choice of major, the skills you'll develop under the engineering component of the program will allow you to work in a range of fields, from infrastructure and hospitals to energy and software.

With the economics program, you'll challenge your personal thinking and current ideas of people and the world, learning how economics is central to decision-making in business, markets, trade, government, health and more. You'll undertake a variety of courses that will build your knowledge about key economic principles, theories and tools, and study topics including microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics.

You'll graduate with a highly regarded skill-set, ready for exciting and rewarding career opportunities across an amazing array of industries and organisations.

Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest areas of engineering.

Mechanical engineers design and manufacture machinery and equipment for a wide range of uses, design and operate power plants, and calculate the economical combustion of fuels, the conversion of heat energy into mechanical power and how mechanical power is used.

Mining engineering is concerned with the sustainable extraction of ores from the ground for processing and utilisation.

It covers all phases of mining operations, from exploration and discovery through to feasibility, development, production, processing and marketing, including site rehabilitation.

This major integrates theory with practice and involves advanced mathematics and earth and engineering sciences. Minors are also available in minerals process engineering and geomechanics.

Graduate in demand

  • Mining engineers find rewarding roles with local and international mining and contracting companies, and often begin their careers in centres where minerals such as gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, uranium ores, coal, natural gas, limestone and phosphate rock are extracted. Indicative annual fee 2020

This indicative annual fee is the cost of enrolling in the Bachelors of Engineering (Honours)/Economics for the 2020 academic year. It is calculated based on a standard full-time study load (16 units per academic year).

If you enrol in a larger or smaller study load, your fees will be calculated on a proportionate basis. All fees are reviewed annually.

HECS-HELP

Domestic places in the Bachelors of Engineering (Honours)/Economics are Commonwealth Supported. This means the cost of your education is shared between you and the Australian Government.

Indicative annual fee 2020 Commonwealth supported place

This indicative annual fee is the approximate cost of enrolling in a Commonwealth supported place (CSP) in the Bachelors of Engineering (Honours)/Economics for the 2020 academic year. It is calculated based on a standard full-time study load (16 units over two semesters).

Actual fees will vary according to your choice of courses and their unit value. The Australian Government indexes fees each year.

  • Safety induction program ($40 with group, or $80 individual)
  • Students who undertake vacation work, fieldwork or work experience will be required to fund their own travel and living expenses.

Your senior schooling is from Australia or New Zealand

Submit your application to the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre if you are an international student who is currently:

  • completing Australian Year 12 (either in Australia or offshore) or
  • studying the International Baccalaureate in Australia.
