If you want to demonstrate your ability to apply economic techniques, enrol in this extended version and undertake a research thesis over a semester.
Courses include: advanced econometric theory, research thesis, quantitative skills for economics and microeconomics A. There's also macroeconomics A and B, computational methods in economics and advanced micro-econometrics.
This program is often taken as a pathway to PhD studies at UQ. It's also suitable as a standalone credential for those who want to fast-track their careers as economists in sectors that do not require a doctorate.

To enrol in the program a person must hold a relevant bachelor degree in Economics or cognate discipline or equivalent as approved by the Executive Dean; and satisfy the Executive Dean that, based on the academic record, the person is suitably qualified for admission.
The School of Economics requires the following documentation for all applications:
- Official transcripts of previous studies
- CV
- Cover Letter - a brief statement explaining your motivation for applying
- Evidence of English language proficiency
- Two references - for a blank report, request one at economics@uq.edu.au These should be completed by your referees and emailed directly to economics@uq.edu.au

BE - A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all macro skills.
CES - Overall 176 and 169 in all sub bands.
OET is not accepted.

Student visas
International students who are accepted into full-time study in the Master of Advanced Economics are eligible to apply for an Australian student visa (subclass 500).
There are a number of requirements you must satisfy before a visa is granted, including the genuine temporary entrant (GTE) requirement.

This indicative annual fee is the cost of enrolling in the Master of Advanced Economics for the 2021 academic year. It is calculated based on a standard full-time study load (16 units per academic year).
If you enrol in a larger or smaller study load, your fees will be calculated on a proportionate basis. All fees are reviewed annually.

This indicative annual fee is the average cost of enrolling in the Master of Advanced Economics at 2021 fee rates. It is calculated based on a standard full-time study load (16 units per academic year).
The average fee would be less for part-time study. Actual fees will vary according to your choice of courses, their unit value and the time you take to complete this program. Fees may be higher in later years as all fees are reviewed annually.
