Next steps after graduation
In Queensland, legal practitioners are required to complete a minimum of 10 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points each year to maintain their practicising certificates and stay abreast of legislative changes and the evolution of the 'business of law' in their practices.
Postgraduate study programs such as the LLM are recognised towards Queensland Law Society CPD scheme units if you can demonstrate relevance to your legal practice.

Entry requirements
Prerequisites
- An Honours or Masters degree in law leading to admission to legal practice (eg LLB(Hons), JD or equivalent) with a GPA of 4; or
- A degree in law leading to admission to legal practice (eg LLB or equivalent) with a GPA of 4; and either -
- a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice or equivalent qualification; or
- two years of professional full-time (or equivalent) work experience in the same discipline, approved by the Executive Dean; or
- An equivalent academic or professional qualification in law and be able to demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Executive Dean that you have the requisite knowledge and experience to complete the program.

International students are strongly encouraged to register in Orientation Week to attend an optional English for Academic Communication (EAC) program. The program is conducted jointly by staff of the Institute of Continuing and TESOL Education (ICTE) and the Law School. International students are given a brief overview of the Australian legal framework and the common law system. The program also provides an opportunity for new students to meet each other socially.
Student visas
International students who are accepted into full-time study in the Master of Laws are eligible to apply for an Australian student visa (subclass 500).
There are a number of requirements you must satisfy before a visa is granted, including the genuine temporary entrant (GTE) requirement.

This indicative annual fee is the cost of enrolling in the Master of Laws for the 2021 academic year. It is calculated based on a standard full-time study load (16 units per academic year).
If you enrol in a larger or smaller study load, your fees will be calculated on a proportionate basis. All fees are reviewed annually.
