Professor Ryan Ko

Chair & Director - Cyber Security, Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology

Professor Ryan Ko is the Chair and Director of Cyber Security within the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology at The University of Queensland (UQ). His applied research in cyber security focuses on returning the control of data to cloud computing users. Ryan serves as an expert advisor in cyber security for various organisations, including INTERPOL and the New Zealand Defence Force.

Ryan holds a PhD from Nanyang Technological University. Prior to working at UQ, he was the highest funded computer scientist in New Zealand during his cloud security research for the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

Head of Careers Services

Daniel Capper heads the Careers Service at The University of Queensland. Daniel equips others with personal and educational tools that allow them to excel in multiple areas of their lives, connect with people who can support their journey and motivate individuals to believe in and value themselves.

Daniel holds Master's degrees in Business, Arts and Applied Economics as well as a Bachelor of Science. He is internationally trained in coaching and mentoring and works across private colleges and the university sector in Australia and internationally.

Dr Micheal Axelsen

Lecturer (Business Information Systems), UQ Business School

Dr Micheal Axelsen holds the position of Lecturer in Business Information Systems within the UQ Business School and is Program Leader for the Master of Commerce Program at The University of Queensland (UQ). He has extensive industry experience, is a technical expert in the area of ICT management and governance and continues to consult with industry as part of his role with UQ.

Micheal holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), a Master of Information Systems and a Doctorate of Philosophy. Micheal’s PhD thesis considered the impact of technology dominance upon professionals, and best practice in information systems audit.

Avril Robertson

Professor Avril Robertson

Professor in Biotechnology, Faculty of Science

Professor Avril Robertson is the Director of Biotechnology programs at The University of Queensland (UQ). Avril’s initial work on a collaborative research project at UQ, and the associated intellectual property, were commercialised in one of the largest biotech Series A investments to any Australian university. Her research group focuses on discovery and development of novel therapeutics to treat diseases of unmet medical need.

Avril completed a commercially-focused degree and PhD in Bio-organic Chemistry at the University of St Andrews, Scotland. Before pursuing her academic career at UQ, she had a very successful industrial career spanning 10 years across three companies.
