Getting to St. Lucia: Bicycle

St Lucia campus is easily accessed by bicycle, with a safe riverside bicycle path in Toowong and the Eleanor Schonell Bridge in Dutton Park connecting the campus to the Brisbane CBD and surrounding suburbs.

We don't recommend riding your bicycle on Sir Fred Schonell Drive, the main road into St Lucia campus. Safer routes can be found closer to the Brisbane River.

Find out more about cycling to UQ at the Cycling at UQ website. There are also secure bike parking facilities and bike racks across campus.

CityCycle

Cycle your way around Brisbane with the city's network of 2000 share bikes and 150 bike stations located every 300 to 500 metres. Take a look at the station map to find your closest CityCycle location.

Getting to St. Lucia: Car

The main road into St Lucia campus is Sir Fred Schonell Drive, a busy four-lane road (two lanes in each direction) parallel to the Brisbane River.

From Brisbane's CBD, the most direct route to Sir Fred Schonell Drive is by Coronation Drive. From the western suburbs, Sir Fred Schonell Drive is accessible via Moggill Road.

Travel times are highly variable; and congestion can cause major delays. When traffic conditions are good, the travel time to St Lucia campus by car from the Brisbane CBD is about 20 minutes.

If traffic conditions are poor, travel by car from the CBD can sometimes take an hour or more. To reduce parking and traffic pressures, we recommend public transport, walking and cycling as alternatives to driving to UQ.

Parking

There is high demand for parking on St Lucia campus, especially during semester. St Lucia campus is the largest commuter destination outside the Brisbane CBD.

For information on parking availability and fees and charges, visit the UQ Parking website.

Because car spaces are limited and because of the large number of students and staff on campus, we strongly encourage using public transport if possible.
