Medicine

Committed to excellence in medical education

Medicine at UQ is about more than a qualification. You’ll make lifelong friends, study in rural Australia and learn alongside our international partners. Oh, and you’ll also have access to top medical researchers and facilities, right here in Brisbane.

With a UQ qualification, you'll be ready for whatever comes next. There are two entry pathways to the Doctor of Medicine: Provisional Entry for school leavers or Direct Entry for graduates. We also offer a range of postgraduate programs to further develop your skills once you’ve entered the profession.

Global ranking

A connected community

UQ has a network of more than 13,000 graduates practising across the globe.

The connections you form at UQ will stay with you long after you graduate. Listen to graduate Dr Tanya Trinh explain how she still calls on her UQ peers for advice and expertise.

International experience

Broaden your horizons

Our programs emphasise both rural and international experience.

Study in one of our 180-plus overseas partner universities, or take part in a rural placement – like third-year student Laura Frederiksen – to explore just how far medicine can take you.

Research opportunities

Social clubs and mentors

Join the UQ Medical Society or UQ Premedical Society mentoring program to connect with your peers.

These programs bring together students from all ages and medical disciplines and will help you build a supportive network of friends.

I was born with a congenital heart defect, so I was interested in medicine from a very young age. The most enlightening experience of my degree to date has been my first year medical elective, which I completed in Hue, Vietnam. It showed me why doctors from developed countries need to visit hospitals in lesser-developed regions to assist with new surgical techniques and better diagnostic abilities.
