U18 International Student Supervision Program
This program provides supervision and support for students who are attending UQ while under the age of 18.
You're required to sign up if you're an international student who's under 18 when starting your program, and you:
- are not living with a parent or approved relative or legal guardian
- need approved accommodation and welfare arrangements to meet visa requirements.
Registration
How to register
Before you register for the supervision program, you must have a conditional or unconditional offer to study at UQ.
When you receive your offer, complete the online registration form and upload the following supporting documents:
- a completed and signed declaration form (PDF, 575.78 KB)
- a copy of your passport photo and information page
- a copy of your parent's or legal guardian's identification
- documentation from your doctor outlining any relevant medical conditions and additional support you require.
If you received a package offer through the Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education or the IES Foundation, you will also need to upload a copy of your lease agreement with your UQ approved accommodation provider.

Program fees
The supervision program fees include:
- a non-refundable $110 registration fee, and
- $8.20 per night for every night you must be enrolled.
After you register, you will receive a confirmation email with your total program fee and payment details. Your preferred accommodation provider will also contact you to finalise your accommodation arrangements.
When you complete the registration process, you should accept your offer to study at UQ. You will then receive a Confirmation of Enrolment and Confirmation of Appropriate Accommodation and Welfare. Use these documents to apply for your visa.
Approved accommodation
Living close to campus
If you are under 18, you must maintain suitable accommodation as part of your visa requirements. We will help you make appropriate arrangements with UQ-approved accommodation providers.
To apply for accommodation, use the International Student Supervision Program registration form. Do not apply directly to the provider – we will contact them on your behalf.
St Lucia and Herston
If you will be studying at St Lucia or Herston, you can choose one of the following off-campus approved accommodation providers:
Urbanest

Single ensuite room in a 5-6 person apartment
- Cost: $286 a week per student based on a 12-month lease
- Facilities: gym, media room, study area
- Meals: shared kitchen, restaurants nearby
Student One

Standard room in a 5-6 person apartment
- Cost: $279 a week per student based on a 12-month lease
- Facilities: gym, study area
- Meals: shared kitchen, restaurants nearby, meal packages available for dine out or delivery
International House

On-campus single room with shared bathroom (4-5)
- Cost: $520 a week per student based on a 40-week agreement
- Facilities: study rooms, tutorials, games room, outdoor BBQ area, basketball court
- Meals: 12 meals per week, shared kitchen, restaurants nearby

Gatton

If you will be studying at Gatton, you can choose from different room options at the Halls of Residence located on Gatton campus. Places are limited.
To discuss overall availability and room options, email our International Student Supervision Team at supervision@uq.edu.au before you register for the supervision program.
On-campus single room with shared bathroom
- Cost: $370 a week per student
- Facilities: common room with access to kitchen facilities, study areas, access to all on-campus facilities, such as the pool, gym, ovals and playing fields
- Meals: 21 meals per week

Travel or overnight stays
While you are enrolled in the supervision program, you must submit an activity permission request (UQ login required) if you plan to:
- travel
- be late for the 10pm curfew
- stay overnight anywhere other than your approved accommodation.
Your request must be submitted at least one week prior to your intended activity. Any travel or overnight stays must also be approved by your parent or legal guardian and your Welfare Adviser.

Safety and support
Adjusting to university life
The supervision program incorporates a range of services and requirements aimed at helping you feel safe, settled and supported through your first weeks and beyond.
You will participate in sessions and workshops to prepare you for your studies. These include:
- academic preparation sessions
- study and life skills workshops
- one-on-ones with your Welfare Adviser and peer mentors
- Orientation Week induction sessions.
These sessions also provide an opportunity to ask questions and meet new people.
Safety and security
You will receive an after-hours emergency support number and meet regularly with your Welfare Adviser. You will also be expected to follow a few welfare rules:
- Act responsibly and avoid risk-taking behaviour.
- Inform your Welfare Adviser if you need additional academic support.
- Attend regular individual and group academic sessions.
- Advise us by email if any contact details change for you, your parents or legal guardian.
Arriving at UQ
Arriving for semester
You should plan to arrive on or after your confirmation of Appropriate Accommodation and Welfare start date. Keep in mind that you must also attend compulsory Orientation Week sessions.
If you received a package offer that includes an English language program at the Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education, you should arrive no earlier than 9 days before the start of your first class.

You are required to arrange an airport pick-up for your arrival in Brisbane. A University representative will meet you at the Brisbane Domestic or International Airport to take you to your approved accommodation.
