6. How to apply

Applying for postgraduate coursework programs is easy, with the majority of applications submitted directly to UQ using our online application form.

Apply online

Step 1 – Choose your program

Go to the academic program you wish to study, ensuring you meet all entry requirements and the application deadline has not passed.

Step 2 – Start your application

Go to UQ’s online application form and create an applicant account.

Complete all details requested in the application form, attaching all required documentation as per the program entry requirements and any other additional information requests.

You can save an incomplete form and return later.

You will need to provide complete academic transcripts and/or testamurs of your tertiary studies with your application form. The transcripts should detail all courses undertaken and any degrees/diplomas awarded. Academic transcripts only for programs not completed at UQ are required.

Step 3 – Submit your application

Upon providing all required documentation, submit your application.

After submission, you can access your application through your applicant account.

We recommend you track the progress of your application regularly.

If you are unable to access our online application, you can download a hard copy postgraduate coursework application form (PDF 193KB) and submit in person or by mail to the UQ Student Centre.

Step 4 – Manage your application

You can check on your application and manage other administrative tasks, including responding to offers, via your applicant account.

Sign into your account to:

  • Upload documentation
  • Provide details of a referee
  • Withdraw your application
  • Accept, decline or defer an offer
  • Pay all or part of your fees
  • Attain Confirmation of Enrolment (COE)
  • Ask a question using our in app messaging function
Assessment of applications for some programs begins immediately upon submission of your application. To change your preferences or update details within your application use the in-app messaging feature to speak with an administrator.

When you apply through QTAC, you will be notified of your offer through QTAC and must respond to QTAC. After this, you will enrol through the University.

 Applying for Doctor of Medicine

There is a different application process for those applying for the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, please refer to Applying for the Doctor of Medicine (MD).

Closing date for applications

Applications to most UQ programs for first semester are due by 31 January. For second semester, applications are due by 30 June. If available for your program, Summer Semester applications are due by 31 October. Some programs have earlier closing dates which are detailed on the academic page of your chosen program.

Late applications may be accepted, but consideration cannot be guaranteed. We recommend you apply well before the closing date as program quotas can fill quickly and applications may be considered up to one year in advance of entry.

See the QTAC website for more information on key dates for QTAC applications.

Credit for previous study

You may be eligible for credit towards your UQ program if you have undertaken previous studies at another university, including Open Learning Australia.

Search our Credit Precedent Database to help determine your eligibility for credit by looking at the precedents established for courses and programs previously assessed for credit by UQ.

Once you have been offered a place in a UQ program, please fill out our Credit or Exemption application form (PDF, 332KB) and forward your request to the relevant faculty.
